“Ruff” day in Miramar.

I was frantic when I couldn’t find my pet dog, Chester. I searched the neighborhood and drove around town looking for him. Thoughts of disaster ran through my mind. Feeling sad and defeated, I came home, and to my surprise, Chester was in the house! In my haste to find him, I did not close the door properly, and Chester let himself in. He was covered in mud and was sopping wet. He has a long fur coat that he shook to remove the water, and he splattered mud spots all over the walls and my furniture.

Floods in the home can become a nightmare and can result in a chaotic situation leaving occupants feeling helpless. Unfortunately, flooding in the home is a very common occurrence in Florida. Picking up the pieces after a flood can be overwhelming but taking the correct steps and putting in some hard work, can help restore your home back to normal very quickly.

SERVPRO of Pembroke Pines / West Miramar gives you a few tips to help you maintain safety for you and your family before you begin the cleaning process:

• TIP #1: Always assume that flood water is contaminated, this way you are going to have a proper cleaning.
• TIP #2: Prepare yourself with waterproof boots or waders and gloves.
